Recorded event date:

Following confirmation that Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 is missing, Malaysian authorities initiate search and rescue operations in the early hours of March 8, 2014.

The Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Centre (ARCC) activates emergency procedures and deploys aircraft and maritime assets to the South China Sea near the aircraft’s last known position. The initial search area is based on civilian air traffic control radar data and the flight’s planned route toward Beijing.

Malaysia’s Department of Civil Aviation states that it is coordinating with neighboring countries, including Vietnam, to expand aerial and maritime coverage. Vietnamese authorities confirm that their own search assets are mobilized within their flight information region.

Officials emphasize that the search area is provisional and may change as new information becomes available. No debris, emergency transmissions, or distress signals are detected at this stage.

Authorities reiterate that the absence of a distress call limits early understanding of what may have occurred. The immediate priority remains locating the aircraft as quickly as possible.
