Editorial standards

Credibility starts
with a traceable claim.

How to read the archive, assess its sources, and help improve the record.

A source hierarchy, not a seal of certainty

01

Official / primary

Documents issued by an investigating authority, government, or original technical research body. Primary documents still have a date, scope, and limitations.

02

Independent analysis

Research, modelling, or interpretation by named authors outside an official investigation. Publication here is not endorsement or proof.

03

Secondary reporting

Journalism and reference summaries that report on other material. They are useful for context but do not become official findings.

Citations & dates

Readers should be able to follow a material claim to its supporting document. Where available, citations identify the issuer, document title, and date. A directory link provides background; it is not evidence for every statement on the page.

“Content revised” records a substantive edit to this website. It is separate from an event date and from the publication date of a source. Historical entries describe what was reported at the time; later evidence may change the interpretation.

Uncertainty & competing explanations

We distinguish observations from inferences. A proposed flight path, search area, or scenario is labelled as such. We do not treat the absence of a finding as proof of a particular theory or assign responsibility where the investigation has not done so.

Corrections & submissions

To report an error, use the correction form. Include the page URL, the disputed wording, and a source document or direct link. Material corrections should explain the earlier claim and the change, rather than quietly replacing the record.

The January 2026 search entry previously attributed Ocean Infinity’s cumulative 140,000 km² figure to the 2025–26 campaign. It now distinguishes that cumulative figure from Malaysia’s approximately 7,571 km² contractual survey figure. The debris page and map were also revised to remove an unsupported December 2024 confirmation and to distinguish schematic geography from verified search coverage.

Scope of the archive

Older entries and external resources remain part of the collection. A historical summary is not a claim that every detail has been independently reverified. Source limitations are disclosed where an entry needs further documentary review. External links may change, and inclusion is not a certification of every statement on an external website.

Respect & independence

We do not publish sensational accusations as fact. The project is independent and does not represent an airline, government, search operator, or the families. Bibliographic and media listings are provided for research context.
