Stolen Passports Identified Among MH370 Passengers

Malaysian authorities confirm on March 9, 2014, that two passengers aboard Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 are traveling using passports reported stolen in Europe.

INTERPOL states that the Austrian and Italian passports appear in its Stolen and Lost Travel Documents database but are not flagged during the boarding process. The disclosure draws international attention and raises questions about passenger screening procedures.

Malaysian police identify the two individuals as Iranian nationals believed to be attempting to migrate using fraudulent travel documents. INTERPOL officials state that, based on available information, there is no evidence at this time linking the stolen passports to terrorism.

Authorities stress that investigations into passenger identities are ongoing and urge against speculation as the search for the aircraft continues.
